Hi, I'm Dan De Sousa. I teach math at a public high school in New York City, where I'm also the math department chair and instructional coach, and I lead professional learning for our school.

This site is a home for my work and the tools I create for my students and myself. I want every student to learn to love and appreciate mathematics. One way I do that is by creating visuals that let students see the math in action.

This year (2026‑2027)

  • AP Precalculus
  • Algebra 1 (Regents)
  • Professional learning for my school, which I run and coordinate
  • New Teacher Academy for Year 1 and 2 teachers, which I facilitate

What matters in my classroom

  • Student reasoning and discussion
  • Understanding and fluency, built together
  • Joy and rigor in the same lesson
  • Clear goals: what we're learning and how we'll know

Outside school you'll find me playing guitar (a big John Mayer fan), pulling espresso, or cooking.
